And with the snow.. Ozge and Gizem joined CAT! New EVS Volunteers

The snow arrived in Leszno and with the new year two new girls came here in CAT Fundation for an amazing EVS experience! Who are they? Why did they apply?! Let’s discover the answers! 

GIZEM GÜCAL

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST IN YOUR LIFE:

I like travelling so much. Recognizing new people and cultures by way of travelling makes me feel so happy.  Every travel has own memories exciting me.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO DO EVS:

I have been voulunteer for 5 years. I began to be volunteer in student social service club in my university. Since I’ve learned that we have a chance to be volunteer in another countries, I want to participate EVS project because being volunteer in another country is very different experience for me. Also it provides me learning new culture and seeing new places. I didn’t have a chance to go Erasmus in my university years so EVS is so important chance to live in abroad even if I will stay short time.

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

I want to work with children and teenagers. I believe that I will learn many things from them. I want to implement my previous actvities in here. It will be very exciting for me. Also, I want to see different places in Poland such as Krakow andWarsaw. I want to learn some Polish words and sentences. In the future , I want to build non- governmental organization in my hometown. CAT is very important example for my future wish.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST IN YOUR LIFE:

I want to traveling the world and meeting new people, new culture and new experience.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO DO EVS:

Because l am always curious about exploring new countries ,languages and cultures. Young people need to help each other. I think EVS is important for young people self-development. And in my opinion our efficiency will increase because of EVS.

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE?:My expectation is exploring new cultures and present my culture and improve myself.

Turkey& Poland: Gülsemin’s Point of view

The huge difference between Turkey and Poland is the opportunities of the cities.

Contrast to Poland , Turkish cities does not have equal opportunities, in terms of education, culture, luxuary, transportation and job. Specifically, the inequality is between east and west of Turkey. Migration is the very normal consequence of this inequality. Let me make it more clear:  if you are going to a high school in east of turkey that means it is very difficult to go to university because of lower education standards. As well, if you go to secondary or primary school in east, again you lack the opportunity of going to a good high school which affects whole life.

Another example should be given for transportation: underground metro is only in big cities;  İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir but in Poland it is very spread in each cities.

Here in Leszno,  i do not observe this kind of situation. People have good education and job opportunities and nobody dreams to move big cities.

NEW EXPERIENCES AND FEELINGS IN STAROZAMKOWA

December is a month to do what we like and to work on what we love, and here we had the opportunity to do so. Working with Veronika Gaal, from Hungary, we enjoyed together a very nice experience in a centre for rehabilitation and Education Tutorial in Leszno.

In the last two weeks, we brought the Spanish Christmas at “Ośrodek Rehabilitacyjno Edukacyjno wychowawczy”, place where we taught about traditions, gastronomy and culture of my country in this special dates. Through presentations, games, and some funny videos, practice with the flag of the country.

Learning about traditions and how to take a good and authentic “Siesta”.

And knowing some about the common elements between Spain and Poland.

But the most fun was to dance flamenco and clap together. With passion, attitude and happiness.

Finally, we would like to say thanks to all the teachers and staff of the centre for their cordiality and kindness, because we felt at home. And will be back next year.

There is nothing better than a Merry Christmas.
